A/PROF. MIKE REID

Orthopaedic Surgeon

A/Prof. Michael (Mike) Reid is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee, hip, sports injuries, and trauma. With extensive training in the UK and Australia, he excels in lower limb arthroscopy, sports injuries, and knee and hip joint replacement. 

He has a keen interest in preservation surgery around the knee and is one of the few surgeons in Australia that undertake meniscal transplants. In addition he regularly performs osteotomies around the knee, primary and revision ligament reconstructions and meniscal repairs. He is proficient in the management of trauma and is on the AO faculty being Director of the course this year. He is very experienced in primary and revision arthroplasty around the knee and hip both robotic and navigated.

Practice Manager

Carly brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team. With over a decade in administration and communications, she has a deep passion for ensuring our practice runs smoothly, efficiently, and with the utmost dedication to our patients’ wellbeing. When not in clinic, she enjoys getting to the beach and spending time with her family. She is a foodie at heart and will always give you great tips on where to dine out in Brisbane.

Sue Forbes

Clinic Nurse

Sue is our Practice Nurse in Cairns. She has worked in an orthopaedic setting for most of her professional career and spent 10 years as the Nurse Unit Manager of Orthopaedics at Cairns Private, retiring from that role in 2017. Since leaving the Private she has worked as a practice nurse as well as undertaking some Clinical Trials work with James Cook University. Sue is a local having grown up in Ravenshoe and resided in Cairns for more than 30 years. Her career has been varied. She trained as an RN at Mackay Base Hospital and on completion of her studies travelled to the UK to complete Midwifery at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bradford. On returning to Australia she completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences with UCQ and eventually a Masters of Nursing through JCU. Sue also has qualifications in Case Management and Rehabilitation and was instrumental in setting up the Rehabilitation Unit at Cairns Private. Her main nursing interests include rehabilitation following total joint replacement surgery and post operative care following hospital discharge.

Elin has over 20 years experience as a registered nurse in Australia. Originally from WA, she has also spent time living and working as a nurse in Darwin, New Castle and for the past 7 years, here in Brisbane. What she loves most about being a nurse is meeting people from all different walks of life and being able to help them to the best of her ability.

Renee Power

Receptionist

Renee has been an integral part of the team in Cairns for the last 3 years. She brings an energy to the clinic daily and is always up for a chat. Our patients love her, and she is always looking for ways she can help the practice run smoothly whilst maintaining our high level of patient care. When not in clinic, she enjoys a cocktail or 2 in Bali with her family. Renee has 2 young boys that keep her busy and she can often be found outdoors enjoying life.

Kelly has 10 years’ experience in medical administration. Her experience has been within hospitals around Brisbane and Ipswich. When Kelly is not assisting out clients she enjoys relaxing with her family at the beach. On arrival you will be greeted with passion and positivity that can only be the OSSEM way.

Dr. Lynne Reid has been a physician for twenty years, boasting extensive training across all facets of health and well-being. With over a decade of general practice experience, Dr. Reid has also pursued postgraduate qualifications in internal medicine, medical education, medical law, sport and exercise medicine, and focused psychological strategies.

She is deeply passionate about lifestyle medicine, including exercise prescriptions, nutrition, weight loss, and overall well-being. Driven to help individuals reach their optimal health, she is dedicated to supporting those preparing for surgery, struggling with weight, seeking to boost energy levels, or aiming to rejuvenate their motivation for a healthy and active life.

Dr. Reid applies a holistic and evidence-based approach to healthcare, ensuring that patient well-being and long-term health outcomes are at the forefront. Her commitment is to drive medical excellence and lifelong learning in sports and exercise medicine.
